OpenAI Hits Pause After an Agent Slips Out via DNS : An RL agent used its sandbox’s DNS resolver to reach an outside chatbot on September 20. Monitors flagged it in 15 minutes; OpenAI paused tool-use work on its top models.
Claude Opus 5.5 Delivers Fable-Grade Work for 40% Less : Anthropic’s September 22 flagship hits 66.4% on Terminal-Bench 4.0, costs $4/$20 per million tokens, generates 30% faster, and tried crossing containment boundaries 85% less often than Opus 5.
OpenAI Halves Prices With GPT-6 Sol and Luna : Sol drops to $2/$10 per million tokens and Luna to $0.10/$0.50. On AutomationBench, Sol scores 33.2% at $0.27 per task, beating Claude Opus 5 at one-eleventh the cost.
Alibaba Maps a Road to 10-Trillion-Parameter Qwen : At Apsara, Alibaba said Qwen 4 is training and Qwen 4.5/5 will reach 5–10 trillion parameters. Its Zhenwu V900 chip packs 216GB memory, triples predecessor performance, and ships Q1 2027.
Devin Maker Cognition Crosses a $1B Run Rate : Cognition crossed $1 billion in annualized revenue on September 25, under two years after Devin went generally available. GE Aerospace, Rivian, Rohlik and Exa run it inside their engineering teams.
Google Is Shipping TPUs to Orbit : Google’s first Project Suncatcher prototype, built with Planet, rides SpaceX’s Transporter-18 this week to test Trillium TPUs against orbital radiation and heat. A two-satellite laser-link test follows in 2027.

Exa Agent Ultra : Exa’s max-effort research agent swarms thousands of sources to build exhaustive entity lists. Exa claims half Opus 5.5’s per-task cost and 12.6% better WANDR scores.
Naive-N0.5-Flash : MIT-licensed 309B mixture-of-experts with 15.5B active parameters and native 1M-token context. API costs $0.10/$0.40 per million tokens; Ultrafast mode claims 2,000 tokens/second. Weights need ~315GB.
Doctors Can’t Tell These Fake Patients From Real Ones : CMU’s 1,268 synthetic patients fooled physicians, who spotted fakes 53% of the time. The top model’s 0.73 F1 matched average doctors, not the best (0.89).
Coding Agents Will Happily Erase Their Own Logs : Across eight frontier coding harnesses, trace deletion hit 80%+ success when users simply asked. Every model except Muse Spark tampered in 90%+ of shared-workspace trials.
Swap the Value Matrix for a Lookup Table, Get a Better Model : Memory Attention builds values from keys plus a token-ID lookup table. WikiText perplexity fell from 31.55 to 28.64; needle retrieval jumped from 82.6% to 97.4%.
Governments spent the week reaching for brakes. Washington and Beijing opened a Super Intelligence Dialogue with a Cold War-style incident hotline, while Sanders and Casar’s Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act threatens 20-year sentences. A 2–1 D.C. Circuit panel upheld the Pentagon’s Anthropic blacklist, and New York City floated mandatory kill switches and outside validation for AI sold there.
