Frontier AI Gets Too Powerful to Roll Out Freely
29th June 2026 | Superintelligence Newsletter
Hey Superintelligence Fam 👋
This week, AI crossed from faster models to political risk. OpenAI’s GPT-5.6, Anthropic’s Fable fallout, and global safety reviews show one thing: frontier AI is now infrastructure.
The new question is not just who builds the strongest model, but who gets to use it, under what rules, and whether governments become permanent gatekeepers of intelligence.
Let’s dive into what’s new this week..

OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Lineup: Sol, Terra and Luna : OpenAI previewed GPT-5.6 with three models: Sol, flagship; Terra, balanced and 2x cheaper than GPT-5.5; and Luna, its fastest low-cost option.
OpenAI and Broadcom Unveil Jalapeño Inference Chip : OpenAI’s first Intelligence Processor, Jalapeño, was co-developed with Broadcom in nine months, promising better performance-per-watt and gigawatt-scale AI deployment from 2026.
OpenAI Limits GPT-5.6 Rollout After Government Request : After Anthropic’s Fable controversy, OpenAI limited GPT-5.6 access to trusted partners, saying government review should not become the default path for frontier models.
Google Loses $270 Billion After AI Talent Exits : Alphabet lost nearly $270 billion in market value after Noam Shazeer joined OpenAI and Nobel winner John Jumper moved to Anthropic, triggering AI panic.
GPT-5.6 : OpenAI previewed GPT-5.6 Sol with Terra and Luna, adding max reasoning, ultra subagents, 700,000 A100 red-team hours, and Cerebras 750 tokens/second for fast frontier workflows.
Claude Tag : Anthropic brings @Claude into Slack for Enterprise and Team beta, where 65% of its product code already comes from internal Claude Tag team workflows today.
Figma Motion : Figma Motion lets designers create production-ready animations on-canvas, prompt complex movement, control every keyframe, export MP4/GIF/WebM, and hand off CSS, JSON, React to developers directly.
GLM-5.2 : Z.ai’s GLM-5.2 brings open-weight coding power with 1M-token context, 744B+ parameters, strong agentic workflows, and major price-performance pressure on closed frontier models.
Lookahead Sparse Attention : FlashMemory-DeepSeek-V4 predicts future context needs, shrinking KV cache to 13.5%, cutting 500K-token overhead by 90%+, and boosting accuracy 0.6%.
Latent Spatial Memory : Mirage stores 3D scene memory directly in diffusion latent space, delivering 10.57x faster video generation, 55x lower memory, and stronger long-horizon consistency.
The Consistency Illusion : CARA shows multi-agent agreement can hide reasoning mismatch; across 600 moderation cases, 118 showed divergent agreement, separated with Cohen’s d of 0.80.
Beyond Scalar Rewards : Z-Reward replaces single-score reward modeling with score distributions, reaching 89.6% preference accuracy for 27B teacher, 88.6% for 9B student.
Five Eyes warned frontier models could enable devastating cyberattacks, a US AI Incident Reporting Act demanded seven-day disclosures, Nvidia faced music-training litigation, and global AI ethics lawsuits pushed companies toward accountability.
