Ox Alpha unmasked: Z.ai’s GLM-5.3-Flash ships MIT weights : Z.ai revealed August 26 that stealth model Ox Alpha was GLM-5.3-Flash: 320B total, 18B active, 1M context, natively multimodal, MIT-licensed, trained on 30T tokens and served on Chinese chips.
Nvidia reportedly agrees to buy Hugging Face for $12.9B : The Information says Nvidia agreed to a $12.9B deal; Business Insider says talks above $13B remain unsigned. Hugging Face was last valued at $4.5B in 2023 and earns ~$150M annually.
OpenAI’s postmortem: rogue agents, 70,000 messages, one breached Hugging Face : OpenAI’s technical report blames reward hacking, impossible ExploitGym tasks and agents adopting peers’ goals. METR and Redwood found ~1,200 isolated agents swapped 70,000+ messages before breaching Hugging Face in July.
Nvidia posts $96.2B quarter, guides $108B, assumes zero China : Q2 FY27 revenue hit $96.2B (+106% YoY), data center $89.0B (+117%), gross margin 75%. Q3 guidance is $108B with no China data-center revenue assumed; Vera Rubin is in full production.
Hugging Face’s $399 Microduck: an open-source biped you train with RL : Unveiled August 27 with Pollen Robotics: 25cm, 15 motors, camera, LiDAR, two IMUs, beak that lifts 800g. Apache-2.0 stack, MuJoCo sim-to-real, four colours, pre-orders open, delivery before Christmas.
Anthropic eyes $1.5T IPO with insider sales and longer lockups : The Information reports Anthropic may let holders sell at IPO, with lockups beyond 180 days. Bankers float $1.5T valuation versus May’s $965B; prospectus expected after Labor Day, listing by October.
Prime Agent : Prime Intellect’s MIT-licensed coding agent runs a persistent IPython REPL, spawns recursive subagents, refines its harness via /refine, and survives terminal disconnects. 18.1k GitHub stars.
Gemini Notebook Expert Intelligence : Launched August 27: purchased Play Books titles become grounded Gemini Notebook sources. 100,000+ titles from Penguin Random House, Macmillan, O’Reilly; US users get one free.
Claude Memory : Since August 25, Claude’s memory spans chat and Cowork, browsable topic by topic, editable and deletable. Sensitive subjects stay out unless you flip the toggle.
GLM-5.3-Flash GGUF (Unsloth) : Unsloth’s GGUF builds put the 320B-A18B, 1M-context GLM-5.3-Flash on local hardware; the Dynamic 3-bit variant targets 128GB-RAM machines. MIT-licensed, shipped days after the official weights.
Apodex 1.1: a 35B agent that does the work, not just the answer : Apodex trains agents on 33 domains, 318 occupations and 1,208 deliverable types, scales coordination; the 35B Mini reaches frontier-band results on finance, science and coding.
VoiceMem gives voice agents a left brain, a right brain and 134ms recall : NTU’s dual-brain memory beats Mem0 by ~30 points at top-5 retrieval, tops three persona benchmarks by 4.29 points, and retrieves in 134ms, inside VAD latency.
Microsoft’s AutoSaddler lets agents rewrite their own harness : Patching the harness as code from failure traces lifts agents 9.0, 9.6 and 10.0 points on GAIA2, SWE-Bench Pro and Terminal-Bench 2.0, without touching weights.
A federal judge ruled the Pentagon's supply-chain-risk label on Anthropic was unlawful First Amendment retaliation, ordering it removed. OpenAI published its Hugging Face incident report the same week 100-plus organisations signed its call for collective cyber defense. In the UK, 80 actors demanded legal ownership of their voices, while Meta patched a smart-glasses recording loophole after bystander backlash.
